Troy opens Sun Belt play this weekend

TROY, Ala. ( – The Troy volleyball team returns home after eight games on the road to host Texas State in Trojan Arena on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a Sunday contest against UT Arlington at noon.

Troy (6-9) looks to break a five-match losing streak as they open conference play this weekend. The first two matches of last week saw five sets, and the last three only saw three sets.


  • Alisha Hinrichs picked up a career-high 30 digs against Portland last weekend. The sophomore currently has 196 digs, which is 97 more than she had all of last year.
  • The Trojans are second in opponent hitting percentage as opponents are hitting only .168 against Troy. The only school better is Coastal Carolina with a .158 opponent hitting percentage.
  • Sara Landis picked up 56 kills in the five games, including a career-high 19 kills against UAB. She also had 15 against Eastern Illinois, which is the second most from a Sun Belt team this year in a three set match.
  • Defensively, the Trojans rank fifth in blocks and digs. Troy has 110 blocks this season, and is led by Leah Causey with 53 total blocks. The Trojans have 778 digs this year with Alisha Hinrichs in the lead for the team with 196 digs.
  • Troy is 3-8 all-time in Sun Belt Conference openers.

  • Texas State (7-8) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Roadrunner Roundup in San Antonio, Texas with its lone win against Texas State. The Bobcats have three players with 100 kills or more in Jordan Kohl (145), Megan Porter (109) and Lauren Kirch (100).
  • Led by Qiana Canete and Kaitlyn Granger, with 178 and 176 kills respectively, UT Arlington (6-9) has not won a match on the road this season. The Mavericks have lost to North Texas, Ole Miss, Abilene Christian and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road.
