From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- Selma Mayor George Evans says the city is in good financial shape and headed in the right direction.

Evans used a power point presentation to highlight a drop in crime, projects that are currently underway in the city and plans for the city's future.

"The status of the city is very good. It's just a matter of us tweaking and putting pieces together in order to make things grow as it should be, so after one year I'm pleased, as I've done assessment, this first year was mostly for assessment. Try and identify things we need to change or improve on or continue and so that year has come to a close and we're now trying to put those pieces in place, hopefully to make our city even stronger as we go," said Evans.

Mayor Evans pointed to riverfront development as a major key to the city's future success.
