Update: Montgomery Police Officer Resigns after High-Speed Chase

CBS 8 News has Greenville Police Dept. video of a high speed chase that officers say involved a Montgomery police officer speeding on a motorcycle. That 21-year-old officer has now resigned.
Greenville police confirm to CBS 8 that they arrested Montgomery police officer Mark McKenzie and his friend Randall Copeland. Officers say they spotted the two speeding on motorcycles on Interstate 65.
"When they came into view, he clocked him on his radar unit and one was doing 90 mph and one was doing 115 mph. He turned his lights on signaling them to stop," Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram told CBS 8 News.
But Ingram says the two kept going and police stopped chasing them north of Greenville.
"One of our supervisors called the chase off because of the danger to the public. Our unit stopped chasing at that point. Later on, the chase was taken up by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office," Ingram said.
Lowndes Co. deputies arrested the two, who are charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment and attempting to elude.
CBS 8 News has learned that this isn't McKenzie's first run-in with the law. He was also arrested in late June by Millbrook police on a reckless endangerment charge after getting into a fight in a parking lot.
Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says this is an unfortunate situation.
"I'm sort of regretful that he chose to have a little thrill adventure and has put a lot of jurisdictions on the ready, having to deal with that. He has resigned from the police force so now its really up to the jurisdictions to take whatever action they deem necessary," Strange said.
The Montgomery Police Dept. announced McKenzie's resignation late Thursday afternoon.
