Extreme obesity is affecting more children.

A new study looked at more than 700,000 children between the ages of two and nineteen.

The heaviest children were black teenage girls .

Twelve percent were extremely obese.

Just over eleven percent of Hispanic boys fell into the same category.

Pregnancy Deaths Print E-mail

The number of pregnancy related deaths in the U.S. has almost doubled in the past decade.
Deaths directly related to pregnancy or childbirth are still rare, but doctors are concerned about the recent rise.     

      
Blood clots, hemorrhaging and uncontrolled blood pressure seem to be among the leading causes of death.
It's not clear what's causing the increase, but researchers suspect it has to do with the recent jump in cesarean deliveries. 


They also point to the fact that one in five pregnant women is obese - which can cause high blood pressure and diabetes. 


 
Pepsico Products To Be Removed From Schools Print E-mail

Pepsico has announced plans to remove sugary drinks from schools around the world in the next two years.

The company's move follows an urgent request by first lady, Michelle Obama.

As part of her campaign for healthier kids, she asked food companies to completely rethink the products they offe, specifically removing the fat, salt and sugar.


 
Packing Your Child's Lunch Could Lower Obesity Rates Print E-mail

New research finds that children who eat school lunches are more likely to be overweight or obese than kids who bring lunch from home.

The kids who did not brown bag it were also more likely to develop bad eating habits and higher levels of cholesterol.

Health official say they recommend students bring their lunches to school, to help crack down on growing obesity rates.

Calcium may help you live longer.

A new study found that men who consumed the most calcium in their food were twenty five percent less likely to die over the next decade than those who took in the least amount of calcium.

None of the men took calcium supplements.
