There has been a dramatic increase in the number of teenagers with hearing damage.

A new study says nearly one in five kids has at least slight hearing loss.

That's up 30% from the early 1990s.

The research doesn't explain the increase but many experts point to the surge in headphone use.

Lou Gehrig may hot have had what's known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

The baseball player suffered numerous head injuries on the field.

Scientists studying spinal cord levels discovered unique proteins in three athletes who suffered head injuries and developed symptoms of ALS, but other ALS patients didn't have those proteins.

That's sparking speculation in the medical world that Lou Gehrig and other athletes could have had a similar, but different, illness.


 
Cold Weather Causes More Heart Attacks? Print E-mail

Colder days could raise the risk of heart attacks.

Researchers in Great Britain found that a drop in even one degree Celsius on a single day could mean another 200 extra heart attacks.

Older people between the ages of 75 and 84 and those with a history of heart disease seemed to be more vulnerable to temperature changes, while people taking aspirin were less vulnerable.

Why temperature affects the heart is still unclear.

 


 
MRSA Cases Down Print E-mail

A new study shows MRSA cases are down.

Data shows there's been a 28% drop in hospital MRSA infections and a 17% drop in MRSA cases outside medical centers.

MRSA is an antibiotic resistant bacteria also known as the flesh-eating bacteria.

Researchers believe part of the reason for the decline is more MRSA prevention in hospitals.


 
Camel Milk Healthier than Cow Milk? Print E-mail

Camel milk does the body good.

The European Commission is considering making camel milk available for consumption.

It's sending a panel to inspect camel dairy farms.

Veterinarians say camel milk is similar in taste and appearance to cow's milk, but it's closer in composition to human milk.

That makes it a healthier option for people, according to the research.


 
Scientists Find Out Why Some are Sound Sleepers Print E-mail

Scientists think they know why some people are sound sleepers.

While you sleep, the brain produces something called spindles.

Researchers found that people whose brains produced lots of spindles were less likely to wake up from noise.

Figuring out why some people produce lots of spindles and others don't could one day lead to a treatment for a better night's sleep.
