A Breakthrough Could Lead to New Treatments for Macular Degeneration

Researchers may have found a way to prevent an eye disease from getting worse.

There are two forms of AMD, or age-related macular degeneration, dry and wet.

The dry form causes blurring or a blind spot in the field of vision, but not total blindness.

Wet AMD is not as common as dry amd but can lead total blindness.
The new research has pinpointed a part of the immune system which often causes dry AMD to evolve into the more serious wet AMD.

Researchers hope this leads to new treatments.
