Appendicitis Could Be A Costly Problem

By Molly Grady

When it comes to appendicitis care, a new study shows the costs can fluctuate wildly.

Researchers analyzed close to 20,000 adults hospitalized in California for appendicitis.

The average cost per patient was about $33,000.

But some patients paid as little as $1500 while others were charged more than $180,000.

Researchers say even after taking into account different factors, more than 30 percent of the cost fluctuation couldn't be explained.
