CT Scans Could Increase Your Cancer Risk

How children are diagnosed with appendicitis could depend on where they are treated.

A new study in the journal Pediatrics found kids suspected of having appendicitis were more likely to receive CT scans at a general hospital, while kids who went to a private facility were more likely to get an ultrasound scan.

Experts are looking at ways to reduce the use of CT scans because studies suggest radiation from scans can increase cancer risk.
