Obese people who have weight loss surgery like gastric bypass or gastric band surgery are not at greater risk for broken bones in the first few years after their procedures.

Studies have shown that weight loss can lead to a reduction in bone density.

However,University of Southampton researchers found that the overall risk of fracture was not significantly increased because of surgery.
