A new study from the Institute of Medicine says there’s no good evidence that eating super-low levels of salt offers any medical benefits.

In fact, researchers suggest sodium levels below 2,300 milligrams a day could harm some people who are already ill.

However, the new report also stresses that, overall, Americans eat too much sodium.

The study says we need to cut down on processed foods and eating out.

The American Heart Association says it stands by its recommendations of 1,500 milligrams a day.
