Routine Screenings Could Lead to Over-treatment for People With Heart Trouble
A health task force is recommending against using Electrocardiograms for routine screenings in patients with low risk for heart trouble.
The United States Preventive Services Task Force found ECG screenings in those patients often did not lead to proper treatment for heart trouble.
Instead, the screenings lead to unnecessary procedures or overtreatment.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.
