Electronic prescriptions helped avoid 17 million drug errors in one year.

That’s according to a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.

Researchers say ordering prescriptions through computer programs cut down on handwriting mistakes and dosage errors.

They say if more hospitals use computer programs, it could avoid 50 million drug errors each year.
