The emotional stress on emergency dispatchers could lead to symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder.

A new study at Northern Illinois University found people can develop PTSD even if they are not directly exposed to traumatic events.

Researchers say the findings highlight the need to train dispatchers how to handle emotional distress.
