End of Life Planning Difficult for Some Advanced Cancer Patients

Some advanced cancer patients are over-optimistic about their chance of long term survival.

A new study in the New England Journal of Medicine found 69 percent of patients with advanced lung cancer and 81 percent of those with advanced colon cancer did not understand that chemotherapy was not likely to cure their disease.

Researchers say the misunderstanding can pose obstacles to end of life planning.
