Pets may actually improve a child's health.

A new study in the journal pediatrics finds babies who spend time around a dog or cat during their first year tend to be healthier and have fewer respiratory infections.

Doctors believe early exposure to animals may help strengthen a young immune system, allowing kids to fight off viruses.
