Having a CT Scan Could Put Your Child at Risk

By Molly Clifton

Most parents think a CT scan emits as much radiation as a regular x-ray and under-estimate the risks.

Radiation exposure from a head CT scan is 60 to 80 times greater than that of an x-ray.

The study found that after doctors informed parents of the risks, willingness to proceed with a CT scan dropped from 90 to 69 percent.
