Medications for Breastfeeding Mothers

A study in the journal Pediatrics finds most medications are safe for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

Many doctors advise women to avoid medication when breastfeeding , but researchers now say most drugs are not dangerous for infants.

Certain classes of drugs can be of concern though, including pain medications, antidepressants and addiction treatments.

Experts say nursing mothers should talk to their doctors about any medications.
