Millions of People Suffer Traumatic Brain Injuries Every Year

By Molly Clifton

Traumatic brain injuries may be much more common than first thought.

According to a study out of New Zealand 55 million people suffer a TBI every year, but researchers say they believe 95 percent of the cases are mild and usually do not require a visit to the hospital.

A traumatic brain injury is a bump or blow to the head that disrupts normal brain function.
