Modifying Safety Restrictions for Avandia

An Federal Drug Administration Panel has voted that the diabetes drug Avandia still carry safety restrictions, but recommends modifying them.

Scientists reviewed the former blockbuster drug after a new analysis suggested the drug may not increase the risk of heart attack as previously thought.

Three years ago the FDA heavily restricted use of the drug and many countries around the world banned it when it was linked to increased risk of heart attack, even death.
