People Treated for Atrial Fibrillation Rising

By Alabama News Network

The number of people receiving hospital treatment for Atrial Fibrillation is on the rise.

A-Fib is an irregular heartbeat that can lead to stroke and other heart-related problems.

Researchers in New York studied data from nearly 4 million hospitalizations over ten-years.

They found  A-Fib admissions were up by 23-percent, especially in people over age 65.

The American Heart Association attributes the higher numbers to people living longer and accompanying risk factors like high blood pressure, obesity, sleep apnea and diabetes.
