A preservative found in many foods may be able to fight off the deadly H7N9 bird flu.

Researchers at the University of Illinois found the food additive tbhq can attach to the strain, stopping it from infecting healthy cells.

Scientists will now see if it’s possible to develop the additive into a medication.
