Doctors say laws that ban smoking in public places save lives.

California researchers reviewed 45 studies covering smoke free laws.

The studies found states, cities with public bans hospitalizations for heart attack and stroke dropped 15 percent.

There were also fewer emergency room visits for people with breathing conditions.
