Coca-Cola bottles to mark civil rights era

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Coca-Cola officials say they're releasing a limited-edition glass bottle in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the civil rights events of 1963.

 

The Atlanta-based company made the announcement Monday in Birmingham, where several key events of the civil rights era took place.

e bottles will be available only in Birmingham initially. They list seven cities in which key events in the movement took place. At the center of the list the bottle reads: Civil Rights Movement - 1963 - 50 - 2013 - Birmingham, Alabama."

Coca-Cola said in a statement that it's honoring a movement that began in Birmingham and changed the world.

 

The commemorative bottles will be available in Birmingham stores starting July 1 and elsewhere over the next several months.
