Rains, rising water delays Alabama River salvage

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Persistent rains and rising water levels are hampering work to salvage a 50-ton boat on the Alabama River in Montgomery.

A dilapidated tourist riverboat sank near the Montgomery Marina last year, and workers spent a day trying to remove it in June.

ork has slowed since then because of rising water from weeks of steady rains.

Additional mud is now filling the craft, which is now only three-quarters of the way out of the water.

The owner of a nearby restaurant plans to build a dock and deck at the site once the riverboat is gone.
