MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Tuesday, the 18th meeting day of the regular session:

 

HOUSE:

 

-Passed three bills to further regulate sale and use of controlled substances as prescription drugs. Go to Senate.

 

-Unanimously approved a measure designed to combat child abuse and neglect by broadening the groups and professions that are statutorily required to report suspected cases to authorities. Goes to Senate.

 

-Passed a bill establishing a crime of aggravated cruelty to animals. Goes to Senate.

 

SENATE:

 

-Democrats debated bills at length to slow down action.

 

-Approved two routine bills to continue state regulatory boards for four more years. Go to governor.

 

AGENDA:

 

-Senate Confirmations Committee meets at 8 a.m. Wednesday in room 727 of the Statehouse to consider appointments to state boards.

 

-House Judiciary Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 123 to consider a bill to make it a crime of assault it the third if assault is committed by a person 21 years of age or older against a person who is less than 18 years of age on school property.

 

-House Economic Development and Tourism Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 418 to consider a bill to allow wine manufacturers to sell wine in tasting rooms.

 

-House Education Policy Committee meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday in room 418 to consider a bill to allow children who are home schooled to participate in extracurricular activities at a public school.

 

-Senate meets at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and the House at 3:30 p.m.
