MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Republican Party has announced that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be the keynote speaker for the 2013 Summer Dinner.

The event is set for Aug. 23 at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery.

"Governor Walker is in great demand as people across the country begin thinking about who they would like as the Republican Presidential candidate in 2016," the party said in announcing his appearance.

The Republican governor was elected in 2010. Since then, he's been involved in high-profile political battles in Wisconsin which have made him popular with many conservatives nationwide. In 2011, he signed a law that sharply restricts union rights for some employees, and then beat an effort to recall him from office the following year.
