$10,000 Reward Offered For Information On Gas Station Murder
Gas stations are often hit by thieves, but for stores out in the country the Pike County murder of a clerk has them on even higher alert.
Sheriff Russell Thomas says deputies patrol the stores, especially at night, to try to protect isolated stores. But, he says each store should have some type of surveillance system recording at all times.
51-year-old Mike Mills was shot and killed after being robbed working at the Spring Hill Hill Mart. The owner of a gas station near the crime scene says the threat of violence is always top of mind.
Shayne Lord, Owner RS Lord Inc. Said, "We have a policy that we like to greet each customer as they come in and thank them when they leave so that gives us an opportunity to know who we are dealing with everyday."
A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information should call the sheriffs office at 334-566-4347, you can remain anonymous. The City of Troy contributed $2,500, the Pike County Sheriff's Office came up with $2,500, and the Governor $5,000.
The Sheriff says the cash register is missing. Hunters and property owners should be on the look out for it, because it is considered a vital piece of evidence.
