A high school in Montgomery has undergone a transformation this summer.

Students will be back in class at Robert E. Lee High School Monday with 76 new teachers.

Fourteen of those are from the Teach for America program.

At the end of last school year, 100 teachers were either fired or moved to another school, although all could reapply for their jobs.

This is the first school in Montgomery County to hire from Teach for America.

"We are a new batch of teacher here, and we are coming with energy and gusto. We are coming to change the way these students think," says Savannah Simmons, a new hire at the school. "We are thinking as educators as well, and we are expecting growth."

Principal Lorenza Pharrams says the staff has spent the summer learning new curriculum and teaching methods.

"With the new staff, we are convinced that we have individuals to address all those areas of weakness, and all those areas of concerns," says Pharrams.

Only 33 old teachers and staff members are returning to the school.
