Alabama State University students say they are frustrated with dorm problems and financial issues, and many feel they aren't getting what they've paid for, but new administration is giving them hope.

Communication. That's what the student body vice president says is improving this year, and he hopes that will continue when newly elected Alabama State University President Gwendolyn Boyd starts on the job in less than a month, "It's so important that everybody have a voice at the table and this year they made sure that we were at the table. And we just want that to continue actually," says Student Body Vice President, Darrick Long.

But some students have concerns that they feel aren't being addressed, like issues with the dorm buildings, "Water was coming in the building and everybody had to evacuate and fire alarms are going off at two, three, four, five, six o'clock in the morning. Everybody's missing class. That's a lot for us to handle," says student Iyuna Coleman.

After a forensic audit by the Governor's office found financial mismanagement by some university officials, some students are still left wondering how their money is being used.

Michael Jamison, an ASU student, says, "Last semester I was supposed to get a refund check and it never came through. Then they told me that they would send it to my house over break. Sent in my information and I still haven't got a refund check."

But other students believe the university is headed in the right direction, "I've been here for four years, and every year that I've been here I've just seen constant growth on the campus and the whole atmosphere here at school, so I really like the direction we're headed in already," says Corey Price, another ASU Student.

The Student government Vice President also says that every three weeks, a town hall meeting is held that all students are invited to attend to voice their concerns.
