Hundreds of nursing home employees will soon be out of a job this after the legislature decided not to fund a program which will now be handled by private contractors.

Alabama Department of Public Health officials say they will no longer be the provider for the state's Elderly and Disabled Medicaid Waiver program.

The department didn't get the funding it requested from the Legislaturethat would have allowed it to continue as the service provider in 2014.

Officials say services will still be available, but will be handled instead by private contractors next year.

The change will impact about 600 nursing home employees across the state.
