Attendance Soars at Local Gun Shows

The gun control debate has been grabbing headlines for months,and  some people are worried about the potential bans on weapons and ammunition, which is why crowds are nearly doubling attendance at local gun shows. This weekend, hundreds of people came to the Montgomery Gun Show at the Alcazar Shrine Temple.

"Recently, it's packed out, used to be it'd just be a little bit but here since all this has happened with the gun scare they're packed out," said Toni Eiland, who came to the show on Saturday.

Steve Winn sells ammunition and firearms at several gun shows a year in Montgomery. He says the crowds in January were the largest he'd ever seen. "I sold out in two hours. Two hours. I had nothing on my table," he said.

That kind of demand may not be good for people looking to stock up on ammunition, but it's good news for the economy, according to gun show promoters.

"The firearms themselves, you know, it's employing several people. Then you've got the dealer that's selling the guns, the people he employs, with the guns shows, you look at the vendors that come in, you know, they're getting a couple hotel nights for each of them," said Ryan Wells, gun show promoter.

The Montgomery Gun Show will be open for its final day from 10-4 at the Alcazar Shrine Temple on Eastern Boulevard.
