Update:Bentley Adds Items to Special Session AgendaGov. Robert Bentley is asking the Alabama Legislature to do more than draw new legislative districts in its special session.
Bentley said he wants the Legislature to remove a provision in Alabama's immigration law that requires school officials to ask students about the legal status of their parents. He is also asking the Legislature to vote to transfer about $67 million in state use tax revenue from public education to the state General Fund budget for non-education agencies.
Bentley said he did not include occupational tax legislation for Jefferson County because there is no agreement and it could bog down the special session.
The Legislature started its special session at 9 a.m. Thursday. (Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.) Most Viewed
