CHHS Students Reach Out to Children in Uganda
From the CBS 8 Troy Newsroom-- Charles Henderson High School students are helping children thousands of miles away get an education.
Karla Johnson's students have each written a children's story to go in the "Book of Hope," which will be sent to several orphanages in Uganda.
Johnson says her class wants to make it possible for children all over the world to have a book to read no matter their circumstance.
"We have to be aware of what goes on in our world, and we have to figure out what we can do. If all we can do is write one story, and send it around the world, so a child can learn to read a little bit better, then we've done something," says Johnson.
"Even though we don't see the kids, we understand that they're over there, and we know what they go through now, so it's very humbling," says participant Maci English.
Johnson says this is the sixth year they've put together a "Book of Hope," and every year, former students come back to help.
