Crenshaw Co. Scams On The Rise

Crenshaw County investigators are warning the public about a rise in scams.

Investigators say they are getting several reports each day about mail and Facebook scams. One of the messages states that a company will send you a check for over $200,000 if you first send them a check for nearly $1,500.

Although they are working on some leads, investigators say it is very hard to track down the scammers, so getting that money back is not likely.

Investigator Mike Johnson says most of the scammers do not even live in the state, "The influx of them has been tremendous here lately. We've had several people come in, several people contacting us on the Facebook scams. We just want to get in out in the community that it is going on. I know most people don't fall for it, but some do."

Deputies say if you have any information about these scams, you can contact the Crenshaw County Sheriff's Department.
