From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- The 100-million dollar project to build a copper plant in Wilcox County is making progress. Work crews are clearing the site to get it ready for construction to start by next month. Golden Dragon Copper of China will manufacture copper tubes and coils at the plant. The plant is expected to bring about 500 permanent jobs to the area when it opens. "There are going to be 1000 construction jobs probably in this year and a half period before the plant opens so we look for that to have a major impact on the economy in Wilcox County also," said George Alford of the Wilcox County Industrial Development Authority. The site is located in the Sunny South community of Wilcox County between Pine hill and Thomasville. "We never did think nothing like this would happen here," said Sunny South resident Raymond Norwood. "You can't say what won't happen in a place. This showed me. Made me out of a believer."
