Divers Search for Murder Weapon in Alabama River in Selma
From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- Authorities are searching the Alabama River in Selma for a weapon used in the murder of a Chilton County man back in January.
The Chilton County Dive Team is in the river looking for the gun used to kill 47 year old Julius Collins Burnett of Clanton. His body was found on a secluded road in Dallas County on New Year's Day. Investigators traced the use Burnett's credit cards back to Carl Edward Brown of Selma. Divers are searching the area of the river where they now believe Brown threw the gun after the murder. "It was learned that the murder weapon was possibly tossed under the Edmund Pettus Bridge into the Alabama River. It was believe that he drove a vehicle down to the banks of the Alabama River and with the collaborative efforts of the Chilton County Sheriff's Office and their dive team we're in the process of trying to locate that weapon," said Dallas Co. Investigator Mike Granthum. Brown is in the Dallas County Jail charged with six counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, one count of theft of property first degree and capital murder. |
