The sale of draft beer is not legal in Prattville but that could soon change. The Alabama Senate is considering a bill that would allow it's sale.

Betty Cheek is the front house manager at Beef-O-Brady's Family Sports Restaurant in Prattville. She tells us many of her customers are tourists and says each night at least one patron dining in tries to order a draft beer, unsuccessfully.

"We have a lot of customers that come in from out of town and other states that are really surprised that we do not have draft beer here," says Cheek. "It would just make it nice to be able to accommodate all of those customers."

House Bill 239, would make draft beer sales legal in Prattville. The bill is getting support from the city's mayor, Bill Gillespie Jr.. He says if Prattville is allowed draft beer sales, the city could see more opportunity.

"We're waiting for the draft beer issue to be handled," he says. "I think we'll actually show an increase in job availability and also a different variety of eateries or athletic events."

Mayor Gillespie Jr. says tourists contribute greatly to Prattville's economy and he wants to make sure they're satisfied with what the city has to offer.

"Robert Trent Jones Golf Course is very important and they have a lot of golfers that come into town, he continues. "Draft beer is part of what they expect when they come in."

Alabama News Network found a few golfers in town from Philadelphia. They say they were surprised that draft beer was not an option.

"Up in Philadelphia, every bar has draft beer," says tourist Ed Ambacker. "I'd like to see it when I come down again!"

"That's what we look for, draft beers," says tourist Bill Morris. "I'm not used to drinking out of the bottle. Especially us golfers, when we come down that's what we want to see. We want to play golf all day and have a few drafts."

Mayor Gillespie Jr. says this is the third time a version of this bill has been presented but he is hoping that this time it will pass.
