Downtown revitalization has been a trend across the county for several years now. And efforts to bring that revitalization to Greenville are paying off.

Adding up the purchases, the swipe of a card, and more traffic. They're all the signs of increasing sales downtown.

"The feel of small-town shops downtown... and I think Greenville has huge potential... and we saw the potential in it," Said downtown store owner, Shay Brown, who opened up Blush Boutique last year. She recently expanded with the addition of a clothing store upstairs.

"We want to invest in it. So being that downtown is such a quaint, cute street, we're hoping with us being here we'll bring more businesses downtown. And it has been a really good thing. Lots of our customers have come in and they're shocked at how great and different the building is," Said Brown, who is one of several local business owners that have made downtown home within the last six months.

Some stores are taking advantage of Greenville's Downtown Revitilization grant program, an incentive the city is using to bring business downtown. It offers property owners city grant money to renovate the inside and outside of their businesses.

Francine Wasden, Director of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce says that's only one incentive. She says doing business downtown offers unique advantages that other locations do not.

"Well, $300 to $600 is usually the rent downtown $300 to $600, $650 a month versus, you know, somewhere upwards of $1,500 to $2,000 dollars out on the interstate," Said Wasden.

The city is offering to pay three percent of all construction supplies and materials used in the remodeling and upgrading of the building.

In the last six months alone, the Chamber of Commerce says seven new businesses have located in downtown Greenville.
