Emergency Communications System Upgrade Expected

Changes are coming to Montgomery's emergency communications system after some callers said they got an automated message when they dialed 911.

City officials say they have found at least 4 emergency calls in the last 5 years never went through.

They're hoping upgrading the center and hiring new staff will help.

According to emergency communications officials, the 911 center will hire between 16 and 18 new employees in September.

Then there will be around 50 staff members at the center.

Even though the staff has been operating with fewer staff members, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says most calls are answered within 35 seconds.
