Gov. Bentley: Teachers & State Employees "Unlikely" to Get Pay Raises

By Kristen Fisher

When it comes to the state budget Governor Robert Bentley says pay raises for teachers and state employees are unlikely this year.

Bentley says his staff is studying the problem, but the money is just not there for state employee raises or education employees.

The money would have to come out of the already cash-strapped General Fund budget.

Mac McArthur, executive director of the Alabama State Employees Association, says rank-and-file employees have not received a pay increase since 2008

The education budget committee doesn't have a "hard estimate" on how much tax revenue will be available for the education budget.
