Extremely Light Turnout Predicted for Alabama Runoffs

Alabama's chief election official is predicting extremely light turnout for the state's primary election.

Secretary of State Beth Chapman says the turnout Tuesday could be 2 percent to 4 percent.

Chapman is predicting low voter participation because there are no statewide races on the Democratic ballot and only one on the Republican ballot. It's the runoff between Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh and Chip Brown for the GOP nomination for president of the Public Service Commission.

Most Alabama counties don't have any Democratic runoff elections, but 25 counties have Democratic runoffs for either a countywide office or district office.

The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
