Fans from across Alabama are remembering the King of Rock and Roll today.

Elvis Presley died 35 years ago today on August 16, 1977.

He was 42 years old.

Elvis fans say they'll never forget where they were when they found out the King died.

Larry Stevens, who was a DJ in Montgomery at the time, says radio stations played his songs for 24 hours after his death.

"It just took the whole town by storm. I can still remember people standing outside listening to their radios. You could drive down the street, and they were sitting in front of their house or in their yards. You know, it just took everybody," Stevens says.

Elvis is the highest paid deceased celebrity behind Michael Jackson.
