Former Gov. Bob Riley is joining a Houston-based firm that helps companies obtain state and federal tax incentives.

In a Wednesday announcement, Alliant Group says Riley's role will be to strengthen businesses and encourage economic growth in Alabama. The company says Alabama unemployment rates fell to their lowest levels during Riley's first term as governor.

Riley will continue to work out of Alabama.

Riley served two terms as Alabama's governor from 2003 to 2011. Before being elected governor, Riley served Alabama in three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Since leaving office, he has worked as a lobbyist representing a number of Alabama companies.
