Greenville Hosts 8th Annual Memorial Day Service
Well, it's a day of pride as veterans remember what they had to go through. Fellowship and music filled the air, as the city held its 8th Annual Memorial Day service at Confederate Park. Hundreds of Butler County residents came out to support and remember those who died in America's wars. But also give thanks to those who fought for our country. Veterans took in the moment as they were honored with the anthem of their military branch... as well as the chance to see their service flag flying high. Many, also took part in the "Walk of Honor" to remember our fallen veterans. Greenville native, Steve Rogers, tells CBS 8 he spent 19 years in the Alabama National Guard before being called to Operation Desert Storm. He says he's been to almost every Greenville Memorial Day event. "I'm real proud that they do have things like this to recognize the military," Said National Guard veteran, Steve Rogers. "I'm real patriotic, real religious and I really look forward to people honoring the flag and honoring our God." The death of his two brothers, along with 6 years of serving the armed forces makes veteran Hubert Little feel grateful for the overwhelming support. "It helps us to realize the importance of it, the seriousness of it, the seriousness that we need to remember those people who have died so we can be free to assemble like this, free to do as we want," Said Greenville Lion's Club member and veteran, Hubert Little. "And It's just something that is a heritage." Now, the Greenville Lion's Club did a great job hosting and they said that close to 400 people showed up to the event. Most Viewed
