MPD Makes Arrest in City's 25th Homicide

Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in the city's 25th homicide.

Willie Johnson III, 34, of Montgomery has been charged with one count of murder for the shooting death of 24 year old Courtney Lawery.

Around 7:45 p.m. on May 23, Lawery was found with a fatal gunshot wound on the 1000 block of Early Street.

MPD's initial investigation indicated that Lawery was killed over an ongoing altercation between Lawery and the suspect. 

The suspect has now been identified as Johnson.

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday bu the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.

He is being held under a $75,000 bond.

Note: A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendant is assumed innocent unless and 

until proven guilty.
