Memorial Service Announced for Mal Moore

By Alabama News Network

The University of Alabama has announced plans for a memorial service to remember former longtime Athletic Director Mal Moore, who died Saturday.

A public memorial service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum on the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa. It's being called a "Celebration of Life."

Further details will be announced as they are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, gifts or letters, the Moore family requests that those wishing to express condolences consider a donation in memory of Mal Moore to the Crimson Tide Foundation (c/o Telisa Blanton, P.O. Box 870343, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0343) or the Mal and Charlotte Moore Caring Days Center (P.O. Box 3049, Tuscaloosa, AL 35403).

Moore died at Duke University Medical Center, where he had been since March 13 with pulmonary problems. He was 73 years old.

He had been part of 10 football national championships as a Crimson Tide player, coach or administrator. Moore was athletic director since 1999 before stepping down March 20 because of the health problems.

The football and athletic administration building bears his name, but his biggest claim to fame might have been hiring Nick Saban as football coach. Saban has led the Tide to three titles in four years.
