Montgomery Fireworks Go On Despite Rain

Due to bad weather, fireworks and festivities were cancelled in other areas. But Montgomery still put on a show despite the rain.

This wasn't the weather many people wanted for the fourth of July. Gray skies and Rain kept people indoors and caused many events to be cancelled. Phillip and Betty Lee say they drove in from Dothan to watch the fireworks at the Riverfront.

"It's raining in my hometown," says Phillip.

"Everywhere else we usually go is cancelled, so we decided to come here," says his wife Betty. "It's close to home...just a short drive."

A picnic in the park and live music were scheduled but both were cancelled. Tim Seagrest worked all day in the rain to set up for the fireworks show, putting out tents and cleaning up the area. He says he's had to inform people that the events were not going to happen.

"They sat down in their chairs and they asked me what time the concert was going to start and I told them it's been cancelled," says Seagrest. "They didn't even know."

We caught up with a few of the people who were hanging out downtown, who say they'll stay no matter what the weather does.

"If it rains, we'll have to sit here and let it rain," says Billy Devaney.

Others say the rain has put a damper on Independence Day activities.

"I'm kind of disappointed," says 12-year-old Kirsten Murrell. "We came out here for the fourth of July. I got dressed up and everything and now it's raining!"
