Tonight, Major League Baseball's all stars will take to the field in Minneapolis.

But about one year from now, a different set of future all stars will take the field in Montgomery.

Montgomery will host the 2015 Southern League All Star game.

Even if you're not a big baseball fan, it's a big deal for the city.

The all star game rotates between the hometowns of the 10 teams, but montgomery is getting the game a year early, after another city backed out.

Riverwalk Stadium hasn't seen an all star game since 2006.

In that time, the downtown area has seen a lot of changes.

Mayor Todd Strange says this will mean a lot for the city.

"If you have 7500 people come to this baseball game, half of those from outside of Montgomery, that's close to a million dollar economic impact to the city and region of Montgomery.

Some of those other events are a home run derby and a meet and greet with the players. And many of the players featured in the Southern League All Star games make their way to the majors.

"Being AA, we are the second closest road to the major leagues. Obviously AAA is still one level higher than us. If you look at tonight's major league all star game, 27 players on that roster once played in the southern league, so it's very exciting," said Biscuits General Manager Scott Tible.

That excitement is catching to people in the Montgomery area who are looking forward to everything the game will bring next year.

"That's going to be real nice. It's something to look forward to coming up after this season. And if you're downtown there's going to be a lot for folks from out of town, for them to come out and explore, look around, you know what I'm saying," said Torey Price.

"Montgomery gets a bad rap sometimes in this area getting stuck in the past and they've done tons of rejuvenation down here. Hopefully it makes a big impression," said BJ Urquhart.

Ticket information will come out after this season wraps up in the next couple months.
