Authorities in Alabama say a tactical team is searching an attic where they believe a suspect in fatal shootings near Auburn is hiding.

Montgomery Public Safety Director Chris Murphy says officers have tried to negotiate with a person in the attic and order him to come out. Murphy says authorities decided to send in the tactical team after tear gas failed to flush the person out.

Still, Murphy cautioned that the team was proceeding slowly and that there wasn't a timetable for bringing someone out.

Authorities received separate tips that someone who looked like suspect Desmonte Leonard was in or near the house.

Authorities said Leonard was charged with three counts of capital murder in the Saturday night shooting during a pool party at University Heights apartments.
