From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  A new playground is under construction in the city of Uniontown to give area children a new place for physical activity-- and promote healthier lifestyles.

Architecture students from Auburn University Rural Studio are building the playground as part of a class project.

"We're learning a lot about construction which is good. A lot of architecture students don't get this experience to be able to actually come out and build something so this is going to definitely help us further down the line," said Morgan Acino.

The Strategic Alliance for Health program supplied the playground equipment.

Whitney Green is the S-A-H Perry County Coordinator.

"We're able to partner with Rural Studio and just capitalize on their expertise and their knowledge of the work that they do and we're able to add a little of our resources in the pot to make just more physical activity opportunities for the children and adults of Uniontown," said Green.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of the week.

The two groups partnered to re-surface the walking trail and the basketball courts at the park last year.
